Pupils compete for DRET Primary Cup
Sports enthusiast at Thomas Hinderwell competed in the hope of being crowned champions of the DRET North Primary Cup 2017.
The competition, held at Havelock Academy, saw sports players from seven of the Trust’s primary academies compete in football and netball tournaments in an attempt to take home the prestigious title.
A number of sporting stars attended to cheer on the pupils including England netball player Natalie Panagarry, ex professional footballer Darren Purse, and England International midfielder Sue Smith.
Football freestyler, Dan Magness, wowed crowds during an impressive opening ceremony for pupils.
Alex Green, Primary Sports Enrichment Co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted that our pupils were able to spend time with these sports icons and learn new tips from them.
“The children were encouraged to perform to their best ability and opportunities like this help to spur our pupils on to reach their potential. ”
Sporting events like this support the Trust’s aim to increase physical activity in primary schools.
Alex Green added: “Sport is such an significant part of our pupils’ lives. Not only does it encourage teamwork, but also teaches children about winning and losing, commitment and building friendships.
“It is truly exhilarating to see the pupils compete with such pride and passion, it is a real testament to the Trust’s hard work in organizing these events.
“Congratulations to all our winners, everyone who took part should be extremely proud of their efforts and achievements.”
