Summer Cup 2015
Pupils from Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy competed in a sports event attended by Denise Lewis OBE, Gabby Logan and former Scotland Rugby International, Kenny Logan.
The David Ross Education Trust’s (DRET) Summer Cup is a festival of competitive sport, which was held at the Grantham Meres Sports Stadium. Pupils from across DRET’s network of over 30 academies took part in athletics, swimming and hockey in the hope of winning the David Ross Foundation trophy.
Olympic Gold medallist, Denise Lewis OBE, commented: "I am so honoured to be part of this inspiring event. What’s great about the Summer Cup is that by bringing these academies together they have the opportunity to experience a high level of competition.”
As well as meeting the Olympic champion, pupils also had the opportunity to be interviewed by former gymnast and renowned TV presenter, Gabby Logan.
Highlights for Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy included: Abbygale Asquith and Lois Blake achieving joint 2nd in the girls standing long jump, Robyn Dunn obtaining 2nd in the girls triple jump and Sophie Adcock taking 4th in the girls 25m freestyle.
Sue Bland, Headteacher said, “It is fantastic that DRET organise high profile events like this - and that our pupils are given the opportunity to compete against children from across the country whilst being inspired by sporting heroes. We are very proud of all the children who took part. They were a credit to both the school and their parents!”
