The magic of Hogwarts comes to Thomas Hinderwell

Pupils brought the magic of Hogwarts to Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy to celebrate World Book Day 2014.

The day included a number of Harry Potter themed events. Children made potions, wrote spine-tingling spells, designed their own wands and robes and had a Hogwarts style banquet. They even had a go at playing every young wizard’s favourite game, Quidditch.

Kimberley Lawton, Literacy Leader at the academy, said: “This year we wanted to go big with our World Book Day celebrations. We wanted the children to be fully immersed in stories and the activities planned for the day were designed to do just that.”

Children were also treated to creative writing workshops with story-teller and writer, Miles Salter, to inspire them as budding young authors.

Derek Johnson, Headteacher, said: “It has been a fantastic day at the academy. The pupils have been incredible and have really helped bring the magic of Harry Potter to life.

“We wanted to create a day that would be inspirational for our children and I think we have succeeded. I hope the activities and the workshops have encouraged all pupils to continue developing their reading and writing skills.”
