Year 1 Trip to the Moors National Park Centre

On Monday 7th December Year 1 at Thomas Hinderwell visited the The Moors National Park Centre in Danby to learn more about the characters found in Nick Butterworth's Percy The Park keeper book series.

First we had a long trip to Danby which was made more exciting by listening to Christmas songs and singing along on the bus.

When we arrived at Danby we met our leader Sue, who presented us with a letter explaining that Percy was busy but wanted us to find his animals and keep them safe and warm.

We then set off around the park in search for all the characters, once we found them Sue told us lots of interesting facts about the animals and how to keep them safe.

Finally we found all of the characters and set off to a magical looking yert to read the story 'One Snowy Night' and enjoy a hot chocolate with our characters and friends.

After lunch we then had an opportunity to play in the soft play area, we had a great time on their climbing wall.

The last activity we took part in was looking at animals which had come from a taxidermist. These included; a fox, a hare, a stoat, a duck, an otter and even a badger. We compared these animals and spoke about where and how they live.

We had a fantastic day and have learnt a lot about the animals from Nick Butterworths stories and finished off playing pass the parcel where we won some chocolates to take home.
