  • Friday 9 May 2025 VE Day Celebrations For our VE celebrations, staff and children came to school dressed in 1940’s inspired clothing, well done to everyone who made such an effort. All the children made a sandwich, to eat as a school, to reinforce what it was like in the war and needing to ration. This was also part of our life skills curriculum as children needed to spread, cut and chop their ingredients. A big thank you to our Year 5 children who went to Lidl to purchase all of the ingredients needed whilst budgeting. Year 5 made cupcakes for all classes as a celebration of VE Day.
  • Monday 28 April 2025 Colour Run Today we have held a colour run, it was fantastic to see so many children and families joining in with the colour run and the laugher and joy that could be seen was amazing! Thank you to all that took part.l
  • Tuesday 25 March 2025 Primary Cup Some of our children attended the Primary cup where they got the opportunity to compete against all of the Northern Trust schools. Our netball team played well and you could see their confidence grow as they played more games throughout the day. Our Football team achieved 3rd place and have gained a place in the champions cup on Friday 23rd May.
  • Friday 21 March 2025 Easter Fayre On Thursday evening, we held our Easter Fair, this was done on a smaller scale as has been done in the past and our Y6 children ran all of the stalls. Thank you for supporting this school event. We raised £483!
  • Monday 17 March 2025 Book Fair Our Book Fair arrives in school on Tuesday 18th March. Children can use their £1 World Book Day tokens at the fair. We can earn Scholastic rewards to spend on books for school. If we manage to sell £300 worth of books, we will receive 25% of this back to spend. We hope to see as many of you there as possible
  • Thursday 6 March 2025 World Book Day We celebrated World book day with some fantastic costumes seen, thank you to everyone for putting in the effort to celebrate. It was amazing to see the various different characters around the building. There were a few team costumes this year which was great to see.
  • Wednesday 5 March 2025 Cross Country Final A group of children from years 3-6 competed in a Cross country final, they travelled to Neville Holt, and were an absolute credit to themselves and the wider community.
  • Tuesday 4 March 2025 Year 5 Pottery Workshop Year 5 have attended Woodend Gallery to particiapte in a pottery workshop. The children blew us away with their artistic skills and patience and were a credit to the school.
  • Tuesday 11 February 2025 Year 3 and 4 Pottery Workshop Year 3 and 4 went to the art gallery to create their own pottery. The children were so well behaved and were told that they are a credit to our school, we were very proud. The pottery that they created was amazing, some children really impressed us with their pottery skills and with how hard they worked.
  • Friday 7 February 2025 Childrens Mental Health Week What a fantastic day we have had in school today by ending Children’s Mental Health week with an ‘Dress to Express’ day combined with Crazy hair day. The children (and adults) really embraced the day, by celebrating those things that make us unique and special.
  • Thursday 6 February 2025 Year 1 and 2 Victorian Seaside Trip to Rotunda This week in school our KS1 children have been to the Art Gallery to learn more about the Victorian Scarborough, with a specific focus on the beaches and coastline. They had a fantastic time, had so much fun dressing up and came back to school enthusatic and keen to share facts.
  • Thursday 23 January 2025 Year 6 Evolution Workshop Year 6 have attended the Rotunda where they looked at evolution and extinction- this involved 3 different workshops where the children got to understand how our bodies have changed over time.
  • Thursday 23 January 2025 Year 4 Stargazing at Danby Lodge Year 4 visited Danby Lodge where they participated in various activities including a nocturnal walk, geocaching and observing consellations, through a telescope, they even saw Jupiter and Saturn. The evening was finished off with hot chocolate and marshmallows round a camp fire.
  • Wednesday 22 January 2025 EYFS Dinosaur Workshop On Wednesday morning EYFS all took part in an amazing school trip to the Rotunda Museum, where we took part in lots of different dinosaur workshops, as well as having time to explore all the different areas which expanded over three floors.
  • Friday 20 December 2024 Whole School Pantomime Visit What a excellent morning the whole school has had at the Pantomime. It was fantastic to see everyone smiling and happy to be experiencing the wonder of a pantomime. A big thank you to all of you for supporting our many fundraising events so we can ensure all Thomas Hinderwell children get this experience. Thank you to Treasured Memory Makers on Falsgrave for their donation towards transport for this event.
  • Friday 20 December 2024 Staff Panto This week the children have experienced the staff Pantomime of ‘Charming’, it was not a professional showing, but the children thoroughly enjoyed seeing their teachers in a performance.
  • Thursday 19 December 2024 EYFS Santa Visit Our EYFS children visited Santa yesterday, they all got a gift from him and enjoyed sharing what they have asked for. We know that the children could feel the Christmas magic while they were in the grotto.
  • Thursday 12 December 2024 Scarborough Lights, Live Advent Calendar 2024 Thomas Hinderwell have come together once again with The Salisbury Luxury Apartments on Huntriss Row to create a beautiful Christmas Window as part of the Scarborough Lights, Live Advent Calendar. We had four Christmas Trees, created by our Caretaker, each decorated with a bauble made from every pupil in school, put together by Miss Dixon and Mrs Miller.
  • Friday 15 November 2024 Litter Picks Over the course of the year, each year group will take part in a litter pick organised by Mick Couzens from Keep Scarborough Tidy.
  • Friday 15 November 2024 Whole School Library Visits Autumn Term has seen each year group visit the library. Children had a tour of the library and looked in each area, then they were able to sit and read a book, or take a book home. The children were all very well behaved and very respectful.
  • Friday 15 November 2024 Our three values on display in 'Cool Vibrant' mural Pupils from Thomas Hinderwell Academy in Scarborough were treated to a visual surprise when they returned from their half term holidays.
  • Tuesday 12 November 2024 Anti Bullying Week On Wednesday 13th November we celebrated Odd Socks and Kindess Day.
  • Thursday 7 November 2024 Scootability Children in Years 1, 2 and 3 participated in the nationwide training programme of Scootability. This provides children with the skills and knowledge to ride safely, whether this be to school or around the community. Children worked very hard during their session and were all able to use a 2 wheeled scooter. The trainer was speechless with how amazing the children were and requested that we asked for her to come back.
  • Friday 18 October 2024 World Food Day On Friday 18th October Thomas Hinderwell held our own 'World Food Day' food festival. All children were able to taste different foods from all around the world.
  • Thursday 10 October 2024 Year 5 and 6 Engineering Fair Year 5 and 6 children attended Scarborough Spa for the annual STEM engineering fair. They explored a wide range of stalls which represented all aspects of the STEM world. Children left inspired with new ambitions for their future.
  • Wednesday 2 October 2024 Year 1/2 Farm Trip Children in Year 1/2 attended Whte Lodge Farm near Dalby Forest to look at seed dispersal and the life cycle of plants. The children learnt first hand how this worked and explored an orchard as well as the woodland. They identified animal tracks and their habitats.
  • Friday 20 September 2024 Poetry Slam All children took part in a poetry recital in recognition of "World Day of Peace". Each year group selected a poem linked to peace. They then memorised this and performed this in front of the whole school,
  • Friday 28 June 2024 DRET Inspiration Awards Last night was the DRET Inspiration Awards. We had a total of 8 nominations in 6 categories.
  • Thursday 23 May 2024 Thomas Hinderwell Colour Run On Tuesday 21st May, Thomas Hinderwell completed our first colour run. What a great afternoon it was and an opportunity for pupils, parents and staff to engage in a fun activity. Thank you for all your continued support! We made a profit of over £250!
  • Friday 3 May 2024 Thomas Hinderwell Careers Fair This week we had our very first 'Thomas Hinderwell Careers Fair', it was a huge success with a wide range of professionals volunteering to come and speak to our children. Each class had the opportunity to walk around the Careers Fair asking a wide range of questions to each and every one. Children left enthusiastic and eager to continue their journey to their dream careers.
