Friday 15 November 2024 Litter Picks Over the course of the year, each year group will take part in a litter pick organised by Mick Couzens from Keep Scarborough Tidy.

Friday 15 November 2024 Whole School Library Visits Autumn Term has seen each year group visit the library. Children had a tour of the library and looked in each area, then they were able to sit and read a book, or take a book home. The children were all very well behaved and very respectful.

Friday 15 November 2024 Our three values on display in 'Cool Vibrant' mural Pupils from Thomas Hinderwell Academy in Scarborough were treated to a visual surprise when they returned from their half term holidays.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 Anti Bullying Week On Wednesday 13th November we celebrated Odd Socks and Kindess Day.

Thursday 7 November 2024 Scootability Children in Years 1, 2 and 3 participated in the nationwide training programme of Scootability. This provides children with the skills and knowledge to ride safely, whether this be to school or around the community. Children worked very hard during their session and were all able to use a 2 wheeled scooter. The trainer was speechless with how amazing the children were and requested that we asked for her to come back.

Friday 18 October 2024 World Food Day On Friday 18th October Thomas Hinderwell held our own 'World Food Day' food festival. All children were able to taste different foods from all around the world.

Thursday 10 October 2024 Year 5 and 6 Engineering Fair Year 5 and 6 children attended Scarborough Spa for the annual STEM engineering fair. They explored a wide range of stalls which represented all aspects of the STEM world. Children left inspired with new ambitions for their future.

Wednesday 2 October 2024 Year 1/2 Farm Trip Children in Year 1/2 attended Whte Lodge Farm near Dalby Forest to look at seed dispersal and the life cycle of plants. The children learnt first hand how this worked and explored an orchard as well as the woodland. They identified animal tracks and their habitats.

Friday 20 September 2024 Poetry Slam All children took part in a poetry recital in recognition of "World Day of Peace". Each year group selected a poem linked to peace. They then memorised this and performed this in front of the whole school,

Friday 28 June 2024 DRET Inspiration Awards Last night was the DRET Inspiration Awards. We had a total of 8 nominations in 6 categories.

Thursday 23 May 2024 Thomas Hinderwell Colour Run On Tuesday 21st May, Thomas Hinderwell completed our first colour run. What a great afternoon it was and an opportunity for pupils, parents and staff to engage in a fun activity. Thank you for all your continued support! We made a profit of over £250!

Friday 3 May 2024 Thomas Hinderwell Careers Fair This week we had our very first 'Thomas Hinderwell Careers Fair', it was a huge success with a wide range of professionals volunteering to come and speak to our children. Each class had the opportunity to walk around the Careers Fair asking a wide range of questions to each and every one. Children left enthusiastic and eager to continue their journey to their dream careers.

Wednesday 20 March 2024 Easter Fair On Tuesday 19th March we held our Easter Fair. Thank you to all your support and the local businesses that donated prizes for our raffle, we raised £608. Check your MCAS app for details of the raffle winners. Prizes are available to collect from the office.

Wednesday 20 March 2024 Bee Active Visit EYFS had a visit from Bee active. They had a talk about keeping safe on the beach and in the sea. Everyone got to colour in an activity sheet to enter a competition. Lots of lovely photos were taken with Bee active. Each child has got a lovely gift bag to take home which included a voucher for a free swim at Everyone's active.

Tuesday 27 February 2024 Scholastic Book Fair has arrived Our book fair has arrived! Members of staff couldn't wait to have a look at what books are on sale! This will run before and after school until the end of the day on Monday 4th March. We will be accepting cash and card payments. Monday 26 February 2024 Nurture Room We are so proud of our new Nurture Room. Miss Dixon and Mrs Lount have created a warm and inviting space for our pupils to develop their social and emotional skills. NurtureUk have even commented on how lovely the displays look and how we represent the Six Principles of Nurture to pupils.

Friday 23 February 2024 Year 2 visit to the Rotunda Year 2 visited the Rotunda and Woodend for Stone Age workshops. They had a brilliant time and loved dressing up, making homes and using clay. Staff at the Rotunda said that Year 2 behaved brilliantly and are a credit to THPA. Well done, Year 2!

Friday 23 February 2024 Scholastic Book Fair 2024 The Scholastic book fair returns to Thomas Hinderwell on Wednesday 28th February and will run every day before and after school until Monday 4th March. Last years book fair was a huge success, thanks to your support. To get 20% of the money back in free books we had to sell £300 worth of books. I am pleased to say that we surpassed that and we sold £931.55 of books meaning we got back £465.78 to spend on books for the school. This was spent on replenishing our library.

Tuesday 20 February 2024 Netball Masterclass New skills learned and refreshed at the Netball masterclass today, our children represented Thomas Hinderwell Academy impeccably!

Monday 11 December 2023 Scarborough Live Advent Calendar All of our pupils painted a bauble which has now been displayed in the windows of The Salisbury Luxury Apartments on Huntriss Row. We are so pleased to be able to take part in Scarborough's first Live Advent calendar, and hope this is something we can continue to take part in. Thank you to Mrs Pots' Pots for supplying the baubles and paints for this.

Friday 31 March 2023 Litter Pick Today our Year 3, 4 and 5's went out on a litter pick around our area. They collected an amazing 15 bags of rubbish! Massive thanks to Mick Couzens from Keep Scarborough Tidy for organising this and spending time talking to our children about litter and our area. #KeepScarboroughTidy

Wednesday 22 March 2023 Callum DeBoys Visit On Thursday 4th May we have Paralympic Athlete Callum Deboys visiting school. At Beijing 2022 Callum produced a string of top-20 performances as he competed across biathlon and cross country, and formed part of ParalympicsGB’s first ever cross country open relay team alongside teammates Steve Arnold, Scott Meenagh and Steve Thomas.

Monday 27 February 2023 Year 1 visit to Danby Lodge Year 1 had an amazing trip to Danby Lodge. We used our map skills to search the woods for the Gruffalo. We collected natural materials and used them to make creatures from the Gruffalo story.

Thursday 13 October 2022 Jenny Wallwork Visit On Wednesday 12 October we welcomed badminton player and commonwealth silver medalist Jenny Wallwork to our school. The whole school took part in a sponsored fitness circuit, with the money raised going towards new sports equipment. All children thoroughly enjoyed their session and Q&A opportunity, with both Jenny and the children ending the day inspired and ready to work hard.
