Callum DeBoys Visit
On Thursday 4th May we have Paralympic Athlete Callum Deboys visiting school. At Beijing 2022 Callum produced a string of top-20 performances as he competed across biathlon and cross country, and formed part of ParalympicsGB’s first ever cross country open relay team alongside teammates Steve Arnold, Scott Meenagh and Steve Thomas.
On the day: Callum will deliver an inspirational assembly which is accompanied by a personalised PowerPoint presentation about his career, achievements, training regimes and sacrifices made, and talk about the highs and lows of his career and how he recovered from the National Lockdowns. He will then show our pupils the medals he has won. Callum will carry out some interesting training techniques. This is followed by a Q&A session for the children and staff.
Following on from this, Callum will lead and motivate the children through a 4-stage fitness circuit, consisting of 4 simple exercises – spotty dogs, leg drives, full of half push ups, and star jumps to cool down.
Each exercise is done for 60 seconds and repeated per class/year group for roughly 7/10 minutes - so it doesn't disrupt lesson plan too much, and it is to see how many repetitions can be completed alongside Callum in that time, so it becomes very competitive and fun.
Our Crowdfunder page is now live if you would like to sponsor your child in completing the fitness circuit. Your child will also be coming home with a paper sponsorship form with a QR code on which will take you straight to the Crowdfunder page.
